JFC Axes 21 Non-fiscal Policy Items from Budget
The Legislative Fiscal Bureau has identified 46 non-fiscal policy items in the executive budget. The proposed policy changes run the gamut of state agencies, but the lion’s share (15 of them) affect K-12 schools, either public or private. The Governor has proposed repealing a number of state requirements for school districts to help make up for cuts in state aid.
The Joint Finance Committee’s co-chairs announced yesterday that they are eliminating 21 of the 46 non-fiscal policy items from consideration, stating that these items “should instead be considered as non-budget legislation by other standing committees.” Among the policy items rejected by the committee were provisions that repealed selected mandates for public schools.
