New Data Show Wisconsin Still Has a Lean Public Sector

Wisconsin has its leanest public sector in nearly 20 years, according to new figures from the U.S. Census Bureau.

An analysis by the Wisconsin Budget Project of the recently-released Census Bureau data shows that Wisconsin has 5.4 percent fewer state and local government employees per capita in 2011 than the national average, ranking 40th among the states. State and local employees include a wide variety of workers, including teachers, highway workers, corrections guards, firefighters, and police officers. Read the full press release.
